Wine by Bok 9/10

Parker was kinda right on awarding Mouton Rothschild 1990 a score of 84, although I totally pity Pichon Lalande 90 with a pathetic score of 79, as I think Lalande would have done much better than this Mouton 90.
Ripe fruity nose, with not much of Pauillac character. The palate was where the disaster began, it was probably one of the most diluted and worst Pauillac I've ever had for 1990, even fifth growth wines were better. How can a first growth get it so wrong from a fantastic 5* vintage is beyond me.

The supremely elegant nose displays red fruit aromas with touches of spice. On the palate, a smooth, creamy attack yields powerful, velvet tannins. The roundness is remarkable, giving the wine very attractive length. The finish reveals vanilla and chocolate aromas, with pleasant floral notes.
Even though it was a fantastic Bordeaux vintage, everyone expected the first growth to be singing, it's very unfortunate Mouton Rothschild 90 was crying. The nose was fabulous, one of the best nose for so many vintages of Mouton I hv drank, but the palette was totally disappointing, started off weak, and gets weaker throughout the night, until it just faded and gone.

Decanter - 94 points
Autumn hedgerow aromatics with hawthorn and blackberries. The palate is soft and gentle, not as intense as the 1989 but still loaded with Pauillac signature. It didn’t get the most positive reaction on release, but this seems unfair at 30 years of age – this wine is still rippling with power. Label artist Francis Bacon, with one of his last works. (10/2018)

Vinous - 94 points
Bright red with a pale rim. Knockout nose of aromatic herbs, strawberry, sweet spices and acacia flower; yet another wine strongly marked by its cabernet franc presence. Fresh and vibrant, this absolutely dances on the palate with strawberry, sour red cherry and raspberry flavors complicated by gunflint and herbs. High acidity provides great clarity and cut to the long, floral, smoothly tannic finish. This has improved considerably with bottle age. Harvested from September 18 through October 3, this Mouton offers amazing balance and fragrance. In 1990 Mouton was still using a heavy toast for its barriques, which resulted in a smoky quality in the wines that was considered by many to be just as typical of Mouton as its opulence. (8/2011)
