Le Petit Haut Lafitte is a second wine from Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte both come from Pessac Leognan. Designed during the blending of Smith Haut Lafitte, the wines of Le Petit Haut Lafitte are vinified and aged with the same care as the batches that will become the first wine of the Château!

It’s easy to see why it’s equally excellent like its first wine Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte 2010. The first wine scored a whopping 98+ point by Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate. Close to a perfect 100 point! An extraordinary performance once again from the Cathiard family. And if you drink Le Petit Haut Lafitte 2010, it gives you the Same Gratification as you would with Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte 2010…YET at a fraction of the price!Superb Value for Money!

If you think Robert Parker review is not convincing enough and wonder how on earth would such a cheap wine be rated so good…wait till you hear my tasting note. Seriously, Le Petit Haut Lafitte 2010 is really drinking very well!

You won’t regret buying this wine
But if you pass up, you will!

I opened up this bottle in a Italian fine dining restaurant, each sip of Le Petit Haut Lafitte 2010 promises such a gastronomy delight! Some wines can be too powerful or strong tannins but the beauty of this wine is it harmonize all the food and is also very charming when drink on its own. Full and rich with a sweet tobacco, it gives an interesting palate of dark chocolate, coffee and fruit character. Ripe and round tannins. My diner friend taste hints of pepper, this wine has very good definition and structure. The finish is classic.

So I say there is really no reason why you should pass up this terrific great wine given such a GREAT Price I offer in today newsletter.

My friend joked “Bok, this is a damn good wine for the price!”

For just $79, we make this offer a TOTAL STEAL!Le Petit Haut Lafitte 2010 is as excellent as its first wine that has gained 98+ score among wine experts!

Fabulous, top rated wine that’s so affordable.
So cheap I think! I can only say: Buy and witness yourself!

Back in 2013, I tour the Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte with my family. I know the lady owner Florence Cathiard and have the pleasure to taste wine in her house and chateau as well! I am honored to meet up with this lady boss as I also witness how much time and intensive effort the owner have invested to continuously improve their wine. Oh, see the secret underground tunnel that opens up? It was their underground wine cellar. COOL!!

#53: Fantastic 4 From 1985 At Fantastic Price!

Thursday, 20 August 2015, Fantastic 4 from 1985 at Fantastic Price!

If you are experienced drinkers, 1985 need no introduction, an extremely successful vintage in Bordeaux that produce very charming wines. Seductive and appealing clarets in living memory. It’s not a vintage on power but of elegance and refinement.

Charming 1985 wines
30 Years Old Wine At Pocket Friendly Price!

Featuring this week Fantastic 4 :

Cos d’Estournel 85

“Immense pleasure to drink!” In one of my Cos d’Estournel vertical tasting, Cos d’Estournel 85 stands out from a lineup of 14 vintage bottles! Outstanding! Nose is very good, with dark intense fruits, cigar box and dark chocolate. The palette is fantastic, with some dark intense fruits, vanilla and spice. This 85 bottle has heaps of wine goodness. It is clear Cos d’Estournel in their 80’s make very good wine and 85 is one of my top vintage! WIN!

BEST PRICE: $340

Canon 85

“Chanel bought this vineyard!” In 1994, Chanel bought over this vineyard, although there’s a change of ownership, the label name remained. I had various vintages of Canon, I can probably understand why Chanel splurge to buy the vineyard. This label is neither loud nor shy with its wine, like this 85, shy on the nose, but the palette was great; ripe, elegant and purity of fruits, yet not overpowering… all leads to a notable character of a great vineyard!

BEST PRICE: $250

Montrose 85

“Impressive Purity” Before I tasted this 85 bottle, I admit I am not really a Montrose fan even though Robert Parker give the Montrose 90s bottle a 100 point! So far I am in awe of the 59s vintage only. But this 85 took my breathe away, this vintage has a deep charm on top of the normal character of St Estephe wines like tea leaves and concentrated fruits, this Montrose has extremely PURE fruits, very clean, very neat.I am starting to enjoy this Montrose!

BEST PRICE: $290

Palmer 85

“Superb deep dark fruits. Great drinking wine along with its neighbor Margaux!” Seductive with ripe black fruits. Spiced aromas, notes of cedar, fresh mint, cigar box and cocoa. Smooth and silky with beautifully polished textures. Very perfumed. On the palate, mouthwatering freshness and scented on the mid palate. Fine, long and really mouthwatering. Opens up to more capsicum on the nose and tobacco. Rich, sumptuous, voluptuous but with all touches of elegance!

BEST PRICE: $360

These Fantastic 4 have aged marvelously, yet retain the joyous style of their youth. In bouquet, in flavor and in their intrinsic harmony they remain handsome, opulent clarets. On top of these featured wines, my 1985 wine list are also very rounded, polished and elegant!
Very few vintages offer this much harmonious charm and 1985 is one significant vintage that carry this beauty even till this date. Drinking very beautifully now or by 2020 for fully matured. Old timers will say this is a modern day version of 1953
Very pleasurable to drink and very affordable 85’s wines that are 30 years old!

“COUGH SYRUP

My goodness, this label from a fantastic vintage ended up as my cough syrup recently! I was least expecting this from a decent Bordeaux maker! Almost tasteless and muted nose. I gave it benefit of doubt by putting in the fridge overnight to re-evaluate the next day. Unfortunately the result was almost the same, with just slight improvement. Thus, this will be my last time buying this label.”

“3RD BEST CHABLIS PRODUCER?

In Chablis there were only 2 great producers that I knew of – Raveneau and Dauvissat. Many claimed William Fevre is a great producer too, unfortunately after today’s tasting I beg to differ. Perhaps a distant 3rd best producer, and really nothing spectacular. I can’t differentiate very much between a Grand and Premier Cru.

Decent forest floor, buttery and light oak nose. Good fruits, good intensity and very rich, good balance. Finally something decent. Still prefers the Preuses”

Dull oak nose. Fruity but lean, missing mid palette, slightly bitter towards the end. Still puzzled with the Grand Cru classification.”

But I finally hit on a decent Grand Cru today with this Preuses. Nose of forest freshness and fruits. Palette had the density and good fruits to support it.”
