BORDEAUX 2016 ST ESTEPHE

Was at a Bordeaux En Primeur 2016 yesterday, excited to report my findings. Bear in mind these wines are still 4 months away from being bottled, so you need to have a bit of imagination and past Bordeaux drinking experience towards the content.

Wasn’t impressive too, perhaps not representative of St Estephe. Light and choking on the nose. Unique chewy fruits, mainly red fruits, still very tannic, but body was very light. I don’t see much potential with this wine.

BORDEAUX 2016 GRAVES

This graves wine was disappointing. Nose was reflecting the weakness of thin and lean fruits already. Palate was the same, lean & thin, although fruity. Wine is not made concentrated enough, I find it very weak. I’d avoid the En Primeur.

HOPELESS

The second white wine of Ch Olivier was really far apart from it’s Grand Vin quality, perhaps in all harsh words I think this wine tasted like water!

Although the nose was decent with slight lemon and ripe fruits, the palate was not even close to the nose; thin and skinny content, totally lacked fruits and taste in the wine. In my frank opinion, I’d say this wine was truly hopeless.

BORDEAUX 2016 BLANC 2

Bear in mind these wines are still 4 months away from being bottled, so you need to have a bit of imagination and past Bordeaux drinking experience towards the content.

Nose was atypical to start with; fruity, sharp & acidic. I was puzzled why the palate wasn’t showing too well? With light, very muted and not expressive content, it was like totally shut down and required years to grow up and mature. I later found that the blend of 55% Sav Blanc and 45% Semillon was probably the key.

My first 16 Blanc, was interesting! I found the acidity much higher than past vintages, won’t be so dull anymore. Nose of strong & ripe fruits. Very good balance, it was almost a grapefruit wine to me. I’m glad Bordeaux Blanc style has change.

I never knew there was a 2nd label for Nenin. Came with low expectations but walked away feeling great. Soft and intensive palate, very seductive, ready to drink now! 90% Merlot, 10% Cab Franc. SS vat fermentation. Impressive 2nd wine.

Quite a good wine. I liked what I smelled; extremely ripe and fruity nose. Content wise, very forward along with refined tannins, very precise and great balance, the key for this wine was it’s exorbitantly soft character, very successful.

One of the weaker wines in the tasting. Nose of fine wood, very muted. Palate was ripe but very thin, typical of Du Tertre style. The fruits were decent, although I suspect the overly light style could not age the wine well.
