POOR VINTAGE 不好的年份
Just don’t write off Haut Brion yet, as it was probably as reliable as Latour, if not better! Trustworthy nose of smoke, earth and elegant age dominated the smell. Palate was expectedly reliable, with elegance and friendly style. This 74 was really beyond my expectations!
INTERESTING BLEND 精彩的杂种
This Henri Bonnaud Palette wasn’t the rosé version, but rather the red wine with an interesting and promising blend. It consisted of 1/3 each of Grenache, Mourvèdre, and Old Carignan, I felt the blend was very interesting as it produced very tannic content, which implied that it can age quite well, while the magic of roundness and softness also kicked in, almost like Merlot but in a unique way. All in, I can only speculate such blend but I do think it has a lot of future potential!
RELIABLE LADY 可以信赖的女爵
You can trust this Lalande to perform for great vintages like 1959, a 59 year old wine and still very charming! Nose of aged mushrooms, musty. Body was full of life, a bit green but tolerable, still acidic and very backward and classic. This can still go on for at least 3-4 decades!
NOTHING TO SEE HERE 这里没有东西看
Despite a great champagne vintage, just bear in mind that this is a mass market champagne, you really cannot expect much even though it was a vintage champagne. Very muted nose with a bit of lemon. Body was simply creamy, loads of mousse, lacked flavor perhaps if it’s still young. But frankly, don’t bother.
Not exactly a good vintage for Bordeaux as it was super hot thus killing all the Merlot grapes and only the tough Cabernet Sauvignon survived. Aromas of plum, black cherry and vanilla smoke with some green notes coming out later on. Palate had some intensely strong tannins, choking alcohol and fruits not so evident. What a shame.
