Paul Pillot Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Les Caillerets 2014

Les Caillerets is a large plot of around 10 ha in Chassagne-Montrachet, thus there are crowded producers from this plot, you can easily get into a maze when trying to fish out the best producer of Les Caillerets. I can assure you, Paul Pillot will not be the best producer, despite Paul being my favorite producer in Chassagne-Montrachet. Apparently over-oaked with very buttery flavor upon first strike on the bouquet and the content, I suspect Paul is trying to mask some kind of weakness in this wine, and true enough, I find rough edges in the content. Fruits are moderately powerful and big, though this wine tasted a lot more like a Puligny Montrachet rather than Chassagne. I have encountered many great producers of Les Caillerets, to mention two of the top producer; Ramonet and Jean Marc Pillot. Ramonet is probably more seductive, while JM Pillot’s style is of great balance with great purity. I didn’t have the honor to drink them side by side, although my preference for now goes to JM Pillot.
