1985 Pavie
Premier Grand Cru Classe A

9.5/10
Odd One

We decanted it for 30 minutes and kept it there for the 2 hours duration of the tasting and it still held till the end.
Powerful stuff!
Amongst our line up of 1985 vintages, Malescot St. Exupery, Les Forts de Latour, Lynch Bages and Cheval Blanc, this wine was very distinct in its smell. It lacked the heavy notes of cigar, cedar wood and leather that the other wines from Pauillac and Cheval Blanc developed.

It had an inviting smell of chocolate, smoky oak, mint and black cherry. Palate still possessed some light red fruits but with lively acidity and smooth tannins.

1989 Angelus

Premier Grand Cru Classe A

9/10
Strong & Powerful
This was quite an atypical Angelus, and I didn’t expect it to be with such a character back in the old days. I remembered Angelus was shockingly good with great finesse, but the 89 was totally different character…

Nose of overpowering vanilla oak, signifying somehow an abuse of oak which was to my surprise and I understood why RP awarded it high scores. Palate was with elevated acidity despite chunky fruits of predominantly Cabernet Franc characters, strong & powerful.
Wines with oak elevate tannins and can age longer. A wine good to invest.
High quality with great precision.
